Continue to pull and extract

If you have any foundation frames left, do not put them in the hive after mid-August.  The honey is not coming in fast enough for the bees to do a good job to draw out the foundation, and they will ignore this unless they are on a really strong honey flow.

Ensure you have:

More containers for honey

Mite testing supplies

Mite treatments if required

Antibiotics as required

Early August

If you have any foundation frames left, do not put them in the hive after mid-August.  The honey is not coming in fast enough for the bees to do a good job to draw out the foundation, and they will ignore this unless they are on a really strong honey flow.

Continue to pull honey and extract as necessary.  Continue to super as necessary.  As the Canola flow drops off, reduce the number of supers you put on at one time.  As you get to the middle of August, it will be easier to add one super when needed, than add too many supers and have the bees not fill anything at all!

Late August

Watch the honey flow, as areas with only canola could be finished by now.  As soon as the honey flow is finished and you pull your last honey super off: give your hive a top entrance – flip your lid and scrape the wax, if needed; do a mite test in that yard and treat as required; apply AFB treatment as required; provide feed as soon as possible.
